In these two sets of results, I had to use internet services to tell me how long it would take me to get to Tottenham Court Road via car and rail. By looking on the internet, I was able to find out that taking the car would by the fastest option, without any guarantee there won’t be traffic along the road. For the car journey, I had to look at the AA.com route planner to find out the mileage and the estimated time. As an example of an online service, this website was a lot more helpful when compared to the firstcapitalconnect.co.uk website in which I had to go through registration processes to see train times and costs for Bedford Railway Station. Advantage although, the website allowed me to book tickets online and provided a guarantee of reservation on the train. For real-time information on timetables, the firstcapitalconnection.co.uk website allowed me to access the relevant times I was looking for as well as the amount of changes the train would take during the course of the journey.
In both cases of the journey, I had to rely on the internet to research my ideal times for leaving and arriving, and costs of the journey. But in the case of traveling by car, I would have had to buy a map of the area to find out how to get there.This plus the cost of petrol for the car, added up to more expenses than traveling by train. Therefore, the train service has proved not just to be a reliable and user-friendly site, is a lot more convenient with expenses such as costs and fuel.

eBay report: Activity 1

eBay is a prime example of an online service which is used by people for commercial uses. It is an auction and shopping site which allows people to buy items – sorted into several hierarchies of goods – online without going to the effort of paying in the shop. Not only this, but eBay can help to lower the costs of goods which you may find in a normal shop or supermarket by auctioning them off with people contesting against each other to buy the good. Although, on the other hand, it can increase prices against what you would normally buy in a shop or market. It works by having several users to post what they want to get rid of, such as a laptop, and other users wanting to buy it by posting in a price of what they would pay for it. Eventually, as more users join the auction, they get to a final price and the person with the highest price after a certain period of time will get to buy the product.
eBay is a company which would target all ages, either wanting to buy collectable goods, antiques, appliances, computers, furniture, equipment, vehicles and other items which are bought and sold daily. eBay can provide a service to people of all ages and interests, and not just one age group. This is possibly why it is such a popular and demanding online service to users. Bidders can find that using eBay is a much more useful alternative to going to normal auction rooms, or shoppers wanting to shop can actually do it online using their service. eBay charge the users for using the service by making them pay for listing and selling products online, which makes a major contribution to the overall profit it makes.
The main benefits of using the eBay service is that the user can feel free to shop and look for great deals online without the relentless effort of going out of the home and to the shop to get it. It provides easy access to the site itself, with user-friendly conditions. The delivery, also, can be a real-high for the site, with the buyer getting products delivered direct to the door. The feedback system also provides the user to give their opinion on the transaction of the order.
Main drawbacks include the significance of unreliability and concern regarding the delivery service. It can prove to be slow running especially when the user wants the product prompt on time.
Other disadvantages of the site include the feedback system, which attaches a few weaknesses that have been acknowledged by eBay itself. The feedback system can lead the seller to build up several items by increasing the rating of previous items sold and then providing a lead to fraud for the next items.
Not only this, but the feedback system can make customers or receivers of the items hesitant to leave negative comments with the opportunity that people will retaliate.
Fraud is the main issue with eBay. This is what makes people to be put off with the service. Acts of frauds include users taking payments and not delivering goods, delivering different items as what was agreed on site, deliberately giving a misleading description of the good, delivering faulty goods, and selling stolen goods.
Overall, this has led people to give a balanced account of whether the eBay service is reliable and keep up to its promises.
eBay is a company which has held many customers to use the service, and attract new users. It is such a successful shopping model that other companies in the same service face hard competition to keep up with eBay as most bidders and sellers are just as reliable as going to a shop yourself. It delivers, it saves time, energy and most of all it saves money!

Summary of online services

My assignment of online services included a close up on how communication is used on the internet for different reasons.
Communication is seen through the internet in such services like e-mail, instant messaging (IM), newsgroups, online conferencing and blogs. They help people connect together and can be an effective way of saving time and money.
Real time information are services like train timetables, news services, traffic reports, weather etc. and can provide useful information to the public when and where they need it most, and can use this information for their own use, and provides excellent alternatives to finding out about information elsewhere.
Commerce is services like shopping online, banking and auctions, and can save people time and effort in the comfort of their own home to buy. Therefore this business can not only be an effective way of drawing more customers, it can satisfy their needs a lot better.
Government, i.e. online tax returns, e-voting, applications for services/grants, revenue collection etc. Getting people to pay or fill in applications online at home can also be a better way of attracting people back to the internet.
Businesses, e.g. video conferencing, collaborative working, business networks. Not only can this connect two businesses through the internet, it can attract new customers, and make work a lot more efficient.
Entertainment includes services like multi user games, radio players, music and movies which allow people to use services and talk to people while they use it.
Download services like music, film, upgrades and software allows people to buy music and films whilst online, without the effort of going to town to buy it in CD format.
Archiving, like x-drives, allow people to store files online and let other people access them, like pictures for example.
All in all, online services can make people's dayt-to-day activity's a lot easier through an internet connection.
